History

Helmuth Baumgarten Airport, or better known as a glider aeroclub, was conceived after 1973. The runway already existed in the municipality of Lontras, in the interior of Santa Catarina, but was forgotten. Mr. Germano, owner of a Cessna that resided at the aerodrome, knew that the airport was bound to close and decided to take action.

To reactivate the runway, Germano then, together with other colleagues, had the initial idea of ​​creating an aeroclub for motor aviation. The idea went ahead because there is already another aeroclub very close (Blumenau) and authorization was not granted. Then came the idea of ​​creating a glider school, and in 1973 the story began of a simple, but beautiful aerodrome amid the mountains of Santa Catarina

O aeroporto Helmuth Baumgarten Airport, ou mais conhecido como escolinha de planador foi idealizado depois de 1973. A pista já existia no município de Lontras, no interior de Santa Catarina, mas era esquecida. O Sr. Germano, dono de um Cessna que residia no aerodromo, sabia que o aeroporto estava fadado ao encerramento resolveu tomar uma atitude.

Para reativar as atividades na pista, Germano então, junto com outros colegas, tiveram a idea inicial de criar um aeroclub para aviação a motor. A idea foi a diante porque já existe outro aeroclube muito próximo (Blumenau) e autorização não foi concedida. Então surgiu a idea da criação de uma escola de planadores, e em 1973 iniciava a história de um simples, mas lindo aerodromo em meio as serras de Santa Catarina
