Emerald Object Library

Developers, please see terms of use!

Emerald Object Library (EOL, for short) is a collection of models produced by Emerald Scenery Design. This library is designed for and primarily intended to be used with Emerald Scenery Design addons!

However, as of June 10, 2021, these libraries may now be used by other developers in their freeware addons!

Now Available on Marketplace!

Emerald Object Library is now available on Marketplace for PC and Xbox! For more info and to figure out what version is best for you, please check out "Should I use the version available on Marketplace?" in the FAQ section below!

Developer Terms of Use

1. The end-user must obtain this package from an official download source (Here at flightsim.to, https://emeraldscenerydesign.com/products/eolib-msfs/, or on Marketplace. Please refrain from packaging it with your add-on or de-compiling it to include partial files for any reason, as it can result in outdated, broken, or conflicting add-ons.

2. Please credit Emerald Scenery Design in your description/documentation and provide a URL to our website (https://emeraldscenerydesign.com/). Alternatively, you may post a direct link to the libraries on our site.

Please understand that the Emerald Object Library is primarily built for and intended to be used with Emerald Scenery Design products. I will add models as I create or acquire them for my projects.

Additionally, please be aware that objects may be updated or, in the worst-case scenario, removed altogether. I try to make these changes as seamless as possible by usually replacing objects rather than removing them. However, no notification of these changes will be published, except in the release change log. So, please give it a quick read after each update!

Distribution

Emerald Object Library is only available to download on Marketplace, at emeraldscenerydesign.com, and flightsim.to. If you find this library uploaded anywhere else other than these three sources, please report it to me via PM or contact me through the following form: https://emeraldscenerydesign.com/support/. Redistribution of Emerald Object Library is EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN.

Installation

The included "esd-modellib-eolib" folder should be placed into your MSFS "Packages\Community" folder. The libraries will load the next time you start Microsoft Flight Simulator. As of v22.3.16, the library folder has been renamed from "esd-eolib." Always do a clean install to ensure no old files are left behind after each update!

Emerald Object Library has been an ongoing project since 2014, starting with FSX. Thousands of hours have gone into creating, converting, improving, and maintaining these libraries over the years. I have also spent hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket on paid/licensed models. Some of which, are included in the package now. Many are still to come.

- A complete overhaul for Xbox Performance: This update rolls back most LOD optimizations and reduces overall texture memory for some objects. During Xbox testing for Fort Crosby, it was discovered that most optimizations were hurting more than helping. Users with a higher end PC or the Xbox Series X should not notice any major changes. This should reduce the load on the CPU, but will come with an increase to GPU usage (though, a decrease in memory usage). A balance which will likely need to be further tuned over time.
- Added NRM textures for Grass01, 02, 03, 04, & GrassPlants01 ground materials.
- Fixed Cabin5 & Roller UV issues.
- Fixed Log01 incorrect Normal texture type.
- Fixed mirrors on Roller & Loader.
- Improved Doormat: Added vertex paint LOD, removed unused day/night material switch.
- Improved Pavers: Added vertex paint LOD, improved texture baking.
- Improved Rock Groups, Pine, & Birch Trees: Now use simple collisions instead of mesh.
- Improved Shed_Small, Shed_Medium: Added vertex paint LOD, fixed shading, improved texture baking.

I very much enjoy your all of your work although I still think of Chunilna as Clear Creek and probably always will having fished the confluence with the Talkeetna for more than 40 years. I have started developing scenery and end up using your object library extensively although my Blender skills are coming up to speed finally.

Is there a list of the sceneries that need this library? I have it installed but if I don't need it for any of the sceneries I'm using I could uninstall it.

That's a hard question to answer. I don't personally keep track of who uses it. There is no list. No way for me to pull any stats on that. Pretty much everything I have on my account requires it. I know TheDukeNewcomb uses it in most of his scenery. You would just need to look at all of your scenery addons and hunt down what dependencies are listed on the download page or maybe in the readme.

Not sure how I missed this! Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, Chunilna Cabin Strip was chosen because I didn't know what else to call it, but that was the listed name of the creek it's on and it is a "cabin strip". Even though I don't like it because it's close to the same name as one of my P3D addons. May be some confusion if I ever redo that for MSFS. Some backcountry strip resources also have it listed as Mamma Bear, but it's not official since it's private. Typically these strips just get named based off of the closest known landmark anyways (Mamma Bear Lake, Chunilna Creek, etc).

I've downloaded the latest update a few times but when I go to unzip the file nothing happens. When I use the Extract To option I get the following error:
The Extraction Operation was not Completed
An unexpected error is preventing the archive from being extracted.
Error 0x8096002A. No error description is available.

Any ideas on how to get around this error?

What are you using to extract the file? Make sure you are using something that supports the rar archive format. WinRAR, 7-Zip, etc.

i rename this to: LIB_emarald_object_library-v23_6_2
its much easyer to manage this stuff in this way 😉
you have the libraries, airplanes, together.
You can see immediately which version you have installed and you can replace it if necessary.
airfields begin with me with the identifier. So you can easily find and compare them.
( I have 89.7GB in the community folder and I can manage them well 😊 )

This is best left up to the end user to do. Anyone can rename the package and sort it how they see fit. Some may prefer different structures than you do. I do not plan on doing anything like this on my end. The current naming structure is inline with marketplace publishing guidelines and has been set in stone (meaning, I have to submit to marketplace under that package name).

Thanks for the feedback. I will keep an open mind if I start getting a lot more feedback on it being confusing, but there have only been a few users reporting being confused on if they still need this copy, since it was launched on marketplace nearly a year ago. I have taken steps since then to further clarify this by adding a disclaimer, updating the short description, adding an FAQ, and replying to those comments below and anywhere else I knew of.

For the time being, I will be continuing to provide non-marketplace copies. There are two sides to the coin. Some love marketplace, some avoid it if at all possible. This is the best way to cater to each side.

Furthermore, hundreds of other freeware devs also use and link to this page, as well as my website copy in their addons, not to mention the "requirements" tab here on .to. So discontinuing it would likely cause even more confusion, even if I take steps to mitigate that as best as possible.

Howdy folks,flightsim.to has discontinued being able to list multiple files under a single download, so I have opted to just upload the file here with standard Zip compression for max compatibility. If you would like a smaller download, it can be downloaded in 7Z format from my website:

Edit (October 23): Due to the growing size of Emerald Object Library and flightsim.to's 3 GB per file maximum, I have opted to switch to using RAR format as it still offers much better compression than Zip and is a bit more widely used than my beloved 7z format (Luckily a future Win11 update will bring default support for both). Since EOLib continues to grow, switching to better compression lengthens it's lifespan here on .to.

Maybe I am misunderstanding something but it seems that I do not need this addon because these libraries are already in my deluxe install because I was just prompted to update in my Content Manager???

If you have these libraries already from marketplace, you do not need to have this version installed. In fact, they will conflict and possibly cause issues. So, only keep one installed.

Yes. Thought, this copy will always be more up-to-date and updated quicker because of the time it takes Microsoft to test and approve it for an update. It's pretty much a window of 1-4 weeks for marketplace.
