Howdy! This simple addon improves the default ground markings (taxiway marking, ILS critical area, and hold short markings along with dirtier runway textures and a better red for the runway indefication markings. Also gives more options for runway tire markings)
This mod isn't fully perfect but it greatly enhances the default airports.
NEW: - Added clean ground taxiway markings. (optional) Download the original file and second file and put both into the community folder
INSTALLATION: To install this addon just drag and drop the file of your choice into your community folder. (ONLY USE ONE OF THE 2 FILES) MSFS Folder -> Community -> Hayes Sim Ground Textures or Hayes Sim Ground Textures - Lightly Used

The textures look amazing, but, when I spawned at an airport to view them, there was a checkerboard pattern across the entire airport. The taxiways, the runways, the ramps, everything ground related. Any ideas?

Something might have not been installed correctly or a driver error/sim error. If you are running DX12, try to run DX11 as a backup. This should just replace default textures, so reinstall the file or try an older version of this addon.

What's the difference between the 3 files that are available to download?
HayesSimulations author
The older versions are just shown if people want to revert to older ones. Downloading the main file is the newest and most up to date.

It looks cool but i wonder why the mod isn't working for me. Tried both heavy and light runway markings.. The runway markings and parking stand number markings very fine and working. Taxi lines stay default and the hold short lines stay default. Red lines are modified. Also have satellite imagery bleeding through heavily in some places. Tested at Tallinn EETN, Lanzarote GCRR, Fuerteventura GCFV default airports.

I don't know why it wouldn't work. I can try flying at these airports but I have been using it in my sim for the past couple of months and even before release and I have not seen any issues on this. No issues with DX11 or DX12.

Hello is there anyway you could make the runway markings over the white dashed lines down the runway? The runway itself looks good with the marks but then the white dashed lines look clean and seem to be above the runway markings? Like KLAX in real life some of the dotted lines you cant even see because there are so many runway markings.
Also do you think you could make the runway markings go out further. It seems they just stop and then it goes to a clean looking runway. You can easily see the cutoff between clean surface and touch down markings. I think making it naturally have smaller markings farther from the touch down zone to the roll out have the markings get progressively less instead of a lot to nothing.
Can you also put cracks and stuff in the runway?
HayesSimulations author
Since this is for all default airports, I will have to just make the dashes a bit more worn instead as MSFS renders each one separately. Other than that, I cannot make the markings go out further as that is set by default but I can make them a lot cleaner when it comes to it ending.
And with cracks, I have still been experimenting patterns to make everything work. I will make sure to implement another update on this when I get some time.
Other than that, this is the first official version that I have released as the versions prior to this were betas. Thanks for giving me feedback and I will try my best to implement these by today 8 CST or November the 11 8CST.

I get a random amount of bleedthrough of the satellite imagery with this mod (sometimes the satellite image can be seen over the taxiway/runway, is there something known about it?
HayesSimulations author
I actually have never experienced this issue or has one of my testers experienced this but I think it might be an issue with one of the textures loading incorrectly. I am currently reworking all the textures so some have been reverted to the default ones to prevent other issues. Can you tell me what airport this is showing up for? Is it for a specific airport or all in general? Maybe I could troubleshoot the next update with this.

Sorry for posting so many comments, the reason this one is seperated is that it's a question. I'm just wondering how do you create runway textures, it's not just a png is it? Just wondering because there isn't any tutorial on it
HayesSimulations author
No worries about the comments, the runway textures are in .DDS format but I convert it to run with softwares such as GIMP and Photoshop. Then I export it and replace the original with a .DDS image. There is a good tutorial on this actually which covers where to find the files to edit the image: https://youtu.be/gmtjRr-kuHU and https://youtu.be/bz5VfVs17xo These two videos help with the editing of ground textures and the implementation of them into sceneries. Other than that, the runways use different textures (concrete, cement, etc.) and then add tire markings to the runways.

Just wondering, where do you get your colors (black, yellow especially) from? Also what software is being used to edit these? Just wondering.
HayesSimulations author
This is a good question. What I did was found a picture of an airport and then used maps to blend together a good color that would match. After that I then used Gimp to put it together.

Great work, thanks for doing this. Any idea if this works with Rex Global Airport Textures and if it adds anything to it?
HayesSimulations author
I am pretty positive this doesn't work with the Rex Global Airport Textures as both replace the same things with different textures and the only main difference is how used this addon makes things look. Rex gives you options for lightly and heavily used but this is a "medium/inbetween"
