This repaint is for the payware FlyingIron Simulations Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6. It depicts "Weiße 1” 4./JG 52 flown by Erich Hartmann.
Major Erich Hartmann hardly needs any introduction, being the greatest ace and most decorated pilot in the Luftwaffe in World War II, with 352 victories, mostly on the Eastern Front. Most, if not all of these were achieved in the 109 and he flew several variants of the aircraft from the G-6 depicted here to the G-10. This aircraft is a G-6 of Jagdgeschwader 52, the unit with which Hartmann flew for much of his career, as based in Budaörs, Hungary in winter 1944-45. It features his distinctive personal markings of black tulip leaves surrounding the cowling and fuselage art of “USCH” on a red heart, a dedication to his wife Ursula. It is painted in the standard RLM 74/75/76 camouflage scheme with a splinter pattern on the wings, yellow RV band and yellow lower cowl. The lower visibility white-only Balkenkreuz is painted on the upper wings. (There is some confusion over the exact colours used by the Luftwaffe on the Eastern front at the time and it is likely that aircraft were at least touched up if not partially repainted while being serviced, often with whatever paint was available.)
This is likely the aircraft in which Hartmann, in his most famous engagement, shot down 4 Mustangs over Ploesti, Rumania on June 24th, 1944. Hartmann himself would be shot down by a Mustang on a separate mission shortly afterwards, surviving the bailout.
