Originally a project simply to correct the taxiway names (which were all kinds of mixed up) and remove the oversized t-hangars on the east ramp, the scope gradually expanded as I started working on it and learned the SDK tools. I think the project is in state to share with the world now. Let me know in the comments if you have any issues with it.
To install, drag the "kosu-ohio-state-university" folder from the .zip file into the FS Community folder.
Changelog (v1.1.0):
- Manually redid all the taxiway lighting with lightrow objects after the UK update did weird things to the autogen ones. It should be much closer to real-life now. Light poles in runup areas have been abolished (again).
- Renamed all the taxiways to match their real-life designations.
- Redid all the taxiway signage and moved signs to their real-life locations as far as I could determine. If you find a mistake, or something isn't true to life, let me know!
- Added bootleg distance boards to 9R/27L at the correct locations (they look reasonably convincing).
- Closed runway 14-32 properly, including removal of hold-short lines and signage to match reality.
- Removed and relocated that absurd beacon tower in the middle of the ramp. As far as I can tell, the beacon sits on top of the hangars by the terminal, so that's where I've moved it. It still looks a little odd (the stock beacon tower is oversized for small airports), but much better than it did.
- Replaced the giant hangars on the east ramp with more realistic ones.
- Replaced most of the autogen "hangars" (which the sim displayed as weird warehouses) with actual hangars. I tried to match the models to real life, but with the limited stock options the best I could do in most cases was just matching the general shape.
- Redid the taxi lines in the east ramp t-hangar alleys
- Redid the north ramp, adding ramp detail and proper hangars to the Medflight helipads (roflcopter goes soisoisoisoi) and the Highway Patrol ramp
- Moved the fuel truck parking out of the old t-hangars to the main ramp by the terminal
- Moved the self-fueling area over to the tank farm apron next to the east ramp. Far as I know OSU doesn't have a self-serve fuel pump at all, but this way it's still there if you want it, and out of the way if you don't.
- Removed most of the taxiway lights that were plopped in the middle of the runup areas (can you say prop strike?) and moved them to the pavement edge where they should be.
- Added black pavement underneath the hold short lines, enhanced centerlines, and anywhere else where aerial imagery showed it existed.
- Changed the glideslope indicators on 9R/27L to PAPI, as in real life, and adjusted the location to match reality.
- Changed the VASI for 9L/27R to match the real-life location.
Things I wasn't able to change (v1.0.0):
- The terminal building. There's no stock option even close to the Knowlton terminal, so I left the autogen one in place since it's at least sort of the right shape. I don't have any current 3D modeling skills, so making a custom model is beyond me (and frankly, all the buildings at OSU would benefit from being custom anyway- no small project).
- The tower isn't really on-model, but same issue- no stock replacement options. At least it's in the right spot.
- I couldn't get ATC to say "Ohio State" or a variation in radio transmissions, despite setting the COM name in the airport XML. Either I'm still doing something wrong or it's not fully supported yet. The stock airport has this problem too.
- FS2020 doesn't like to display the pavement runway labels next to hold-short lines unless you've got an international-airport-sized taxiway- which OSU doesn't. This might be solvable with some kind of custom decal. Haven't looked into it yet.
A note on runway 5-23:
- Out of sheer frustration at how FS2020's ATC tended to assign active runways, I've steath-closed 5-23 for the time being. All the markings and start locations are still there, I just closed it to takeoffs and landings in the runway properties. FS2020 was way, way too eager to make that runway the active all the time, to the point where 70% of my flights were landing and taking off there. In real life, it's very rarely used- I've landed on it exactly once IRL. 95% of the time, OSU uses 9R/27L for arrivals/departures and 9L/27R for closed traffic, even if the winds technically favor the crosswind. Maybe future improvements to SDK or to ATC will produce a more elegant solution (say, some kind of override threshold where winds have to be X knots before ATC will use the crosswind).
- Note you can still take off and land on 5-23 if you select in in the map screen as your start location.
That's it! Hope this makes flying in and out of OSU a more enjoyable experience.
So glad I found this... I too, trained at KOSU, early 2000s... thanks !

Good morning. Great work! There is a slight divot in the 22L Runway right where it meets the now closed 14. It doesn't look like much, but taking off in my CJ4, I hit it fast enough that it terminated my flight for damaging my gear. When I re-started with damage off, it popped me up into the air when I hit it.

I'm honestly baffled by this! NEVER seen a KOSU scenery, so it's nice to see someone give our little airport some attention
